RHC is the gold standard for the diagnosis and classification of pulmonary hypertension in both pediatric and adult patients. RHC provides information on the degree of hemodynamic impairment, predicts survival and mortality, and evaluates the response to therapy. In addition, RHC is used for pulmonary vasoreactivity testing to identify reversible forms of pulmonary hypertension that respond to calcium channel blocker therapy.
