The most common presenting symptoms of HCM is dyspnea, especially during exertion.

Other common signs and symptoms include:

  • Chest pain

  • Dizziness

  • Syncope and presyncope

  • Palpitations

A small proportion of patients with HCM may develop sudden cardiac death. Incidence is as high as 6% per year in younger (< 30 years) individuals, particularly during strenuous exertion.
