Concomitant use of secretin with PPIs may cause a hyperresponse in gastrin secretion in response to stimulation testing with secretin, falsely suggesting gastrinoma. The time it takes for serum gastrin concentrations to return to baseline after discontinuation of PPIs is specific to the individual PPI. Lansoprazole treatment should be temporarily stopped at least 30 days before assessing to allow gastrin levels to return to baseline.
