Individuals may be responders or nonresponders to antiobesity drugs. In general, a 5% weight loss in patients without diabetes and more than 3% weight loss in patients with diabetes should be realized after 3 months of treatment. If this is not attained, the antiobesity drug should be stopped and alternative medications or referral for alternative treatment approaches be considered.
