Psoriatic arthritis is estimated to occur in nearly one-quarter of individuals with psoriasis. Any joint in the body can be affected, but large joints and the distal joints of fingers and toes tend to be most vulnerable. Early recognition and treatment are important: Diagnostic delays of 6-12 months have been associated with long-term joint damage and poor functional outcomes. When not properly treated, permanent joint damage can ensue.
