Influenza and COVID-19 cannot be differentiated on the basis of symptoms alone; laboratory testing is required. However, shortness of breath is more commonly associated with COVID-19 than with influenza. Both COVID-19 and influenza have been known to commonly cause fever, cough, and fatigue. Body aches and pains, headache, runny or stuffy nose, and sore throat are common in patients with influenza and may be somewhat less common in patients with COVID-19.
