Do not administer antibiotics until RADT findings confirm diagnosis of GAS infection. Amoxicillin and penicillin V are first-line treatments thanks to their reliable antibiotic activity against GAS infection. Resistance to clindamycin and azithromycin has increased. Antibiotics are usually unnecessary, even in those with sore throats; reassure patients that symptomatic treatment is usually sufficient, and symptoms usually last less than 1 week.
