Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women around the world. In 2020, approximately 2.3 million new cases of female breast cancer were diagnosed, and the disease accounted for nearly 685,000 deaths. Approximately 30% of women develop metastatic breast cancer, which is generally incurable. Metastatic breast cancer is invasive disease that has spread to sites beyond the breast and axillary lymph nodes. While there is currently no cure for metastatic breast cancer, many treatments are available to extend life and improve a patient’s quality of life.
