Features that have been shown to be associated with worse prognosis include:

  • Bowel obstruction at diagnosis

  • Ulcerative growth pattern

  • Perforation

  • Elevated preoperative CEA level

dMMR, which is associated with high-frequency microsatellite instability (H-MSI), has been shown to be associated with better clinical outcome for patients with resectable colon cancer, based on a retrospective analysis of several large randomized trials of adjuvant therapy for colon cancer.
