
Approximately 5%-10% of patients with pancreatic carcinoma have some genetic predisposition to developing the disease. The inherited disorders that increase the risk for pancreatic cancer include hereditary pancreatitis, multiple endocrine neoplasia, hereditary nonpolyposis rectal cancer, familial adenomatous polyposis and Gardner syndrome, familial atypical multiple mole melanoma syndrome, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, and germline mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
